In 2012, the mainstream media flooded the nation with reports of a Georgia teenager fighting for her life against a “flesh-eating bacteria.” The teenager was injured while riding a zip-line and contracted necrotizing fasciitis. Although I could not find any studies to confirm this, commonsense would indicate that this story had a negative effect on the zip-line industry (if such an industry exists).
