There truly is a Spirit of Christmas that transcends the worldly events that somehow occupy mans being on Earth. One such event is war. There is no more brutal expression of man’s ignorance then the conflicts that have littered our history. Yet, even in war, “love’s pure light” will shine.

On December 24th, 1914, heavenly peace did descend upon the trenches of World War One, when the soldiers of the Germany, French, and English Armies castaway their hate, and for a brief moment in time found “Peace on Earth, Goodwill towards Men.”

On that cold Christmas Eve night, Germany soldiers began decorating their trenches by placing candles on trees while singing Christmas Carols. One such carol was “Stille nacht, heilige nacht.” The British soldiers responded by singing the English version…….. “Silent Night, Holy Night.”

Eventually both sides would walk across “No Man’s Land” and exchange greetings and small gifts. Little did Father Josef Mohr, the composer of “Silent Night,” know that one day the words he penned would, even if only for a short time, help stop the madness of war and bring enemies together in peace:

A Thanksgiving Day Prayer

O Lord, with humble hearts we pray
Thy blessing this Thanksgiving Day
And ask that at table place,
Where grateful folk say words of grace,
That Thou will come to share the yield
Thy bounty gave to farm and field.
We pray thy love will bless, O Lord,

Although Thanksgiving was not official declared a national holiday until the 1860’s, it was President George Washington who offered the first proclamation setting aside a day for the Nation to give thanks for its many blessings.

America is in a fiscal freefall. Our total national deficit exceeds 13 trillion dollars (at this writing). 47 out 50 State are facing financial uncertainty. California, New Jersey, Illinois, and Mass. are bankrupt.  Cities and towns across the United States are facing chaos in their own budgets. Outgoing U.S. Senator Judd Gregg stated that if we continue down this path of fiscal irresponsibility, we will become just like Greece.  But how did we find ourselves in this position as a country, and what (if anything) can be done about it?

There are numerous reasons and attitudes that led us to this place and in no small measure public sector employees hold a great deal of responsibility for the calamity we find ourselves in.  Journalist and Sr. Fellow at the Manhattan Institute  Steven Malanga has written a fantastic new book, Shakedown – The Continuing Conspiracy Against the American Taxpayer, that not only talks about the cause of our collective mess, but provides insight on how we should deal with the problem.

In the book Malanga details how a selfish triad of publicly funded community organizations, public sector unions and big government formed an alliance that helped strengthen their collective power, while robbing the American taxpayer.

Make no mistake about it, Malanga’s new book is a true crime novel, with an unholy trinity (community organizers, public sector employees, and big government) of self-serving entities as the villains, and the shell-shocked citizens of everyday America the victims. Like parasites who feed off their host, even as the host grows weaker, this trinity cares more about their self-seeking survival than that of the very body that provides them their existence.

Steven Malanga’s new book,  is a must read for public sector employees, representative sworn to serve the people, and citizens who open their wallets in support of public initiatives. AFP-NH is proud to host the Tea Party Express Welcoming Rally immediately preceding the Tea Party Express “Liberty At The Ballot Box” Rally on the State House Lawn on Monday, November 1^st.  Concord will be the Tea Party Express’ last stop on its national tour and promises to be an exciting and well attended event.   During the day, AFP-NH will host events in Eagle Square in Concord and a volunteer phone bank and door to door staging center on November 1^st from 11 AM to 9 PM at Tandy’s Top Shelf at One Eagle Square (directly across from the State House) in Concord, NH.  A lunch and dinner buffet will be provided by AFP for volunteers throughout the day.  AFP Tea Party events will also be held from noon until 5 PM in Eagle Square.  Attendees to all of these events will be encouraged to come over to Tandy’s to volunteer, warm up, and grab a snack throughout the day’s program.  AFP t-shirts will be given out to the first 50 volunteers.  107.7 FM The Pulse talk-show host Brian Tilton will be on live at Tandy’s from 1 PM to 3 PM.
